The seam between the visible and the heard is a limit in which our daily consciousness can not cross or grasp, but there are gates through which one can come into contact with these deep connections. Synesthetic descriptions have accompanied phenomenons, mystical experiences and the breaking of the boundaries of reality from the revelation at Mount Sinai ("and all the people see the voices") through mystics from various religions throughout the Middle Ages to contemporary poets and intellectuals. Amir Meir has been researching this seam in recent years using the"Dudon", a musical instrument that turns light and visible shapes into sound, through which one can peek for a moment through the gate
The Dudon, named after the French composer Jacques Dudon who inspired the project, is an analog light synthesizer. It is a musical instrument that translates changes in the exposure of light into sound. Rays of light are refracted through an array of rotating disks on which various shapes are printed. The outcome is a rapid changes in the exposure of a photovoltaic cell located behind the disks to light at different frequencies. The changes in light exposure are translated into changes in electrical voltage through the photovoltaic cell and are sent to a speaker which in turn translates them into sound waves. Each shape printed on a disc produces a sound with a unique timbre and harmonic content, and each printed disc is in fact a musical scale whose intervals between the notes are determined by the number of shapes printed in each cycle
Ville Radieuse - a radiant city, is the vision of the Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier for the construction of an utopian city that will crystallize the activities of its citizens into a perfectly harmonious action. The city was designed according to the abstract form of the human body operating in harmony to make a desire into reality, one aimed at a noble goal. Criticism of the model, by the way, pointed to the lack of a human scale in the design. There are no people in Ville radieuse. The city of Dudons is ruled by abstract forces engaged in the spiritual work of transforming shapes and lights into air vibrations and sounds. With the removal of the divisions, in a complex and harmonious process of alchemy on a solar panel, the fleeting human existence can come into contact with the sublime that is hidden beyond the separated existence
